EDGE MMA Muay Thai Curriculum








1ST KHAN – WHITE PRAJIT – LEVEL I



1. Demonstrate guard and stance



2. Using the Thai pads to strike demonstrate the following techniques: 
               
 
• Left & right round kicks 
               
 • Front & rear teeps 
               
 • Jab 
               
 • Cross 
               
 • Left & right hooks 
               
 • Left & right upper-cuts 
               
 • Left & right Side elbows 
               
 • Left & right knees 
3. Using the Thai pads demonstrate the following combinations as a 1 minute drill:
 
               
 • Jab/Cross/Jab – Rear knee – Lean back avoiding cross – counter with rear round kick 
               
 • Jab/Body punch – Step round lead hook – rear round kick 
               
 • Jab/cross x 2 – Grab alternate knee strikes x 4 – twist pad holder around and release – rear round kick x 2 
4. Demonstrate defences from the following attacks:
 
               
 • Left & right round kicks 
               
  • Jab & cross 
               
 • Long Knee 
               
 • Side Elbow 
               
 • Front & rear Teep 
5. 3 x 1 minute rounds of boxing (hands only) sparring.
 


2nd KHAN – YELLOW/BLUE PRAJIT  LEVEL II




1. Demonstrate the following combinations on the Thai pads:
 
               
 • Jab/cross/lead upper-cut/cross/knee 
               
 • Rear teep/ double round kick 
               
 • Jab/rear knee/rear side elbow 
               
 • Jab/cross/hook/low round kick 
               
 • Jab/cross x 2/grab clinch/ knees x 4/ twist release/ round kick x 2 
2. Demonstrate the following techniques on the Thai pads or kick shield:
 
               
 • Body punch 
               
 • Lead & rear downward elbow 
               
 • Lead & rear upper-cut elbow 
               
 • Reverse spinning elbow 
               
 • From clinch – forward & side knees 
               
 • Lead & rear low kicks 
               
 • Cobra punch 
3. After grabbing your opponents leg, demonstrate the following counters:
 
               
 • Grab/Knee 
               
 • Kick 
               
 • Rear cross 
4. After your leg has been grabbed demonstrate two releases
 
5. 3 x 2 min rounds of Sparring (no elbows to head or knees to face)

rd KHAN – BLUE/WHITE PRAJIT – LEVEL III


1. On the Thai pads demonstrate the following drills: 
               
 • 10’s 
               
 • Jab/cross drill 
2. Against partner demonstrate the following defences:
 
               
 • Parry jab & cross 
               
 • Parry Teeps 
               
 • Leg block kicks 
               
 • Avoid low kick 
               
 • Avoid high kick 
               
 • Avoid kick to body

3. Demonstrate the clinch drill


4. Demonstrate the fisherman Ram Muay


5. Demonstrate part 1 of the Wai Kru


6. 3 x 1 minute rounds of clinching


7. 3 x 2 minute rounds of sparring 




4th KHAN – BROWN & WHITE PRAJIT  LEVEL IV


1. Demonstrate pad holding for 3 x 3minute rounds with a partner 
2. On the Thai pads demonstrate the following drills:
 
               
 • Four by fours 
               
 • Five by fives

2a. Clinch Escapes

3. With your instructor complete 3 x 3 minute rounds on the Thai pads 
4. Demonstrate the full Wai Kru & Ram Muay
 
5. Demonstrate 5 x Mae mai & 5 x Luk Mai Techniques on a partner
 
6. Complete 3 x 3 minute rounds of sparring to include clinch work 



5th KHAN – BLACK/WHITE PRAJIT 


1. Complete 5 x 3 minute rounds with your instructor on the Thai pads 

 2. Demonstrate with a partner 15 Mae Mai & 15 Luk Mai techniques 

3. Show defences for the following: 
               
 • Kicks 
               
 • Punches 
               
 • Knees 
               
 • Elbows 
4. Demonstrate 2 x methods of entry into the clinch
 
5. Demonstrate 2 methods of escape from the clinch
 
6. Demonstrate 3 x different holds in the clinch
 
7. On the Thai pads demonstrate the following combinations:
 
               
 • Low round kick – High round kick – long knee – uppercut – elbow – clinch. 
               
 • Jab – Cross – uppercut – hook – elbow –spinning back elbow. 
               
 • Teep (to thigh) – Teep (to body) – High round kick – long knee – clinch – knees. 
8. Demonstrate the full wai Kru & Ram Muay 



6th KHAN – RED/WHITE PRAJIT 


1. Complete 5 x 3 minute rounds on the Thai pads with the instructor 
2. Complete 5 x 2 minute rounds of sparring to include clinching
 
3. Demonstrate Wai Kru & Ram Muay
 
4. Demonstrate 15 x Mae Mai & 15 x Luk Mai Techniques
 
5. Demonstrate pad holding with a partner for 3 x 3 minute rounds
 
6. Take the warm up session for one class 



7th KHAN - RED & YELLOW PRAJIT 


1. Teach 1 x complete class 
2. Demonstrate, to a minimum of 10 students, hand-wrapping for class
 
3. Massage fighter prior to fight
 
4. Referee 3 x 1 min sparring bout
 
5. Complete 5 x 3 minute rounds with instructor
 
6. Complete 3 x 3 minute sparring rounds
 
7. Write a 1000 word essay on anything related to Muay Thai or Thai Culture & History
